DDR4 3200 Registered ECC Limits

Registered ECC modules add a clock cycle for the register, so latency is CL22 at the rated 3200 MT/s transfer rate. The 288-pin DDR4 interface caps bandwidth at the PC4-25600 ceiling defined by the JEDEC standard. Systems that require load-reduced or higher-density LRDIMMs will not accept these standard RDIMMs. Workloads demanding lower latency than CL22 must look beyond this DDR4 generation.

2Rx8 Rank Determines Slot Population

Each module presents a 2Rx8 rank structure that the memory controller sees as two logical ranks per DIMM. Populating all four slots yields eight ranks total, which is the maximum many dual-channel server boards can address at full 3200 speed. Exceeding the platform’s rank limit forces down-clocking or prevents boot. Servers with fewer than four available slots cannot install the full 128 GB capacity.
