Dense 1U server for virtualisation workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a dual-socket Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 platform into a single rack unit. One ten-core processor running at 2.3 GHz delivers twenty threads for hypervisor hosts or database nodes. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory and twelve DIMM slots allow growth to 384 GB when the second CPU is added. Eight hot-plug 2.5-inch bays accept SAS or SATA drives.

Redundant 550 W supply and front-to-rear airflow

A single 550 watt hot-swap power module provides N+1 redundancy while pulling cool air through the front drive cage and exhausting it at the rear. The H730 RAID controller with one gigabyte cache manages eight 300 GB 15 K SAS spindles without adding measurable acoustic load. Four 1 GbE ports and two PCIe 3.0 slots handle network and expansion traffic within the same thermal envelope.

H730 controller and iDRAC8 simplify storage

The Perc H730 supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 so the eight installed drives can be arranged for capacity or resilience. Integrated iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller gives out-of-band console, virtual media and firmware updates without an operating system. Rails, bezel, drive trays and a power cable ship in the box, leaving only an OS licence to add.
