12 LFF Drive Bay Server

The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 chassis holds up to twelve 3.5-inch drive bays for high-capacity storage arrays. A single Xeon E5-2620 v3 processor at 2.4GHz with six cores and 15MB cache provides the compute base. 384GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory is installed across the available slots. The system ships without drives so you can populate the bays with the SATA devices your workload requires.

Sustained Load Behaviour

Dual 800W hot-plug power supplies share the load and keep the server running if one unit fails. The P440ar SAS controller with expander manages all twelve bays through a single RAID domain. Intel I350 and X540 network adapters deliver two 10GbE and two 1GbE ports for continuous data movement. HPE iLO Advanced remote management stays active even when the host OS is halted, allowing firmware updates and power cycling without physical access.

Practical Interface Limits

The SAS expander connects every 3.5-inch bay to the P440ar controller using SATA or SAS signalling, so drive count is limited by the twelve physical slots rather than controller ports. DDR4 memory scales to 3TB when a second processor is added and all DIMM slots are filled. The second CPU socket remains empty in this configuration, leaving room for a matching Xeon E5-2620 v3 to double thread count and memory channels. Network throughput tops out at the two 10GbE ports provided by the installed adapters.
