Purpose and compatibility

This adapter lets a desktop or embedded system use a USB-bus Mini PCIe WWAN or LTE module through a standard USB port. It accepts 2G, 3G, HSPA, GPS, WiMAX and LTE Mini Cards but does not support PCIe-bus cards such as Wi-Fi modules. A SIM card slot and external antenna are included for carrier connectivity.

What the bundle adds

The board provides a 6-pin or 8-pin SIM connector and an antenna lead so the installed modem can reach the mobile network. No Mini PCIe module or SIM card is supplied, so the buyer must source those separately. The adapter draws power from the USB port and requires no extra power connection.

Interface limits

Only Mini Cards with a USB interface work; PCIe-interface cards will not function in this adapter. The host operating system must already have the correct drivers for the specific WWAN module, as the adapter itself needs no driver. The board measures 9.0 by 4.50 by 1.90 centimetres and weighs 100 grams.
