The PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors running at 2.4 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo. Twenty cores per socket deliver 40 threads for virtualisation, database or compute workloads that need high core density in a compact form factor.

PERC H730P controller with battery-backed cache

The H730P 2 GB controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through, giving flexibility for redundancy or capacity. Battery-backed write cache protects in-flight data during power loss. The X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports, and iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides full out-of-band management.
