The Dell PowerEdge R940 packs four Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors, each with 20 cores at 2.4 GHz and a 3.7 GHz turbo, into a 3U rack chassis. It targets organisations running virtualisation clusters, in-memory databases or high-throughput analytics that need maximum core count per rack unit.

64 GB DDR4 now, 6 TB ceiling later

The system ships with 64 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across four modules, leaving 44 of the 48 DIMM slots free for expansion. The C620 chipset supports up to 6 TB, so memory-heavy workloads can scale without replacing the platform.
