This OWC kit supplies 256 GB of DDR4 ECC Load Reduced DIMMs in a matched pair of 128 GB modules. It is built for Dell PowerEdge XR11 and XR12 servers that require registered, error-correcting memory. Standard desktop boards cannot use these modules.

Sustained operation

Load Reduced topology lowers electrical load on the memory controller, allowing the 4Rx4 organisation to run at 3200 MT/s CL22 without throttling during long compute runs. The 1.2 V operating voltage keeps power draw stable across extended workloads. Backward compatibility with 2133, 2400, 2666 and 2933 MT/s buses lets the kit slot into existing configurations at the highest common speed.

Upgrade path

The kit replaces lower-capacity LRDIMM sets or fills empty slots to reach the 256 GB total in two modules. It cannot be mixed with unbuffered or standard registered ECC DIMMs, so the full population must use the same Load Reduced type. The jump is worthwhile when the server hits memory limits on virtualization, database or analytics tasks and the platform supports 128 GB density per slot.
