This OWC kit supplies 32 GB of DDR3 1600 registered ECC memory in two 16 GB modules for Lenovo ThinkStation C30, D30 and S30 workstations. It is built for servers and workstations that require error-correcting registered DIMMs. It will not work in standard desktop computers that only accept unbuffered memory.

Simple DIMM Installation

Installation follows the usual 240-pin DIMM procedure: power down, open the chassis, align the notch and press until the retention clips lock. The modules have no heat spreader, so they fit tight slots without clearance issues. The only common mistake is mixing these registered DIMMs with unbuffered memory, which the platform does not support.

DDR3 1600 Platform Limits

The DDR3 1600 interface caps bandwidth at the PC3-12800 data rate and operates at 1.5 V. Registered ECC modules add a clock cycle of buffering, so latency is slightly higher than unbuffered equivalents at the same speed. Capacity is limited by the number of DIMM slots and the maximum density the ThinkStation memory controller recognises.
