The Dell OptiPlex 790 SFF is a small-form-factor desktop built around an Intel quad-core i5 running at 2.9 to 3.30 GHz with 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 1 TB 3.5-inch hard drive. It ships with Windows 10 Professional 64-bit pre-installed, a DVD-RW drive, USB keyboard and mouse, plus integrated Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 handles standard office displays.

Straightforward SFF access

The small-form-factor chassis opens with a latch so you can reach the two 240-pin DIMM slots, the 3.5-inch drive bay and the low-profile expansion slot. Memory upgrades use DDR3 modules only; the board supports a maximum of 16 GB. The slim case accepts only half-height cards, so full-height graphics or add-in cards will not fit. Cable routing is tight, so route SATA and power leads carefully when swapping the hard drive.

Verify your peripherals and space

Confirm your monitor has a VGA, DisplayPort or HDMI input that matches the video outputs on this unit. The system includes USB keyboard and mouse, so no PS/2 ports are required. Ensure the intended location accommodates the SFF footprint and allows airflow through the side vents.
