2U rack server with dual Silver 4210R CPUs

This Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built for virtualisation clusters and database workloads. It ships with two Intel Silver 4210R processors, each offering 10 cores at 2.4 GHz. The system includes 64 GB of DDR4 memory across four 16 GB modules running at 2666 MT/s. Four 1.2 TB 10K SAS drives are pre-installed behind an H730P RAID controller.

Sustained load on dual 10-core processors

Under continuous demand the twin 10-core CPUs maintain their 2.4 GHz base frequency across all cores. The H730P controller caches write I/O to absorb bursty database traffic without throttling the SAS drives. Dual 1100 W redundant power supplies share the load evenly, preventing thermal spikes during prolonged compile jobs or backup windows. iDRAC9 Enterprise monitors temperatures and power draw independently of the operating system.

Tool-less rail install

The server slides into a standard rack on the included tool-less rails and locks without screws. Eight 2.5-inch bays are present; four remain open for future SAS expansion. The H730P requires a brief Ctrl-R configuration on first boot to initialise the virtual disks. Network teaming across the X550 10 GbE and 1 GbE ports must be set in the OS after iDRAC networking is configured.
