The Dell PowerEdge R930 is a 4U rack server populated with four Intel Xeon E7-8890 v4 processors, each running at 2.2 GHz with 24 cores. It ships with 1.5 TB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 48 modules and twenty-four 960 GB SATA SSDs managed by a PERC H730P RAID controller. The system includes a quad-port network daughter card with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections, iDRAC8 Enterprise remote management, four 1100 W platinum power supplies, rails and a front bezel.

Sustained multi-socket throughput

With 96 total cores and a 3.4 GHz turbo frequency, the four-socket design maintains high throughput for memory-intensive workloads such as in-memory databases, virtualization clusters and analytics. The DDR4 memory subsystem scales to 12 TB across 96 slots, while the 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for consistent I/O under load. Four redundant platinum power supplies and hot-plug drive bays keep the platform running during component replacement.

Verify rack power and networking

Confirm the rack can supply sufficient power for four 1100 W units and that cooling capacity matches a fully populated 4U chassis. Ensure SFP+ transceivers and cabling are available for the two 10 Gb ports on the X520/I350 daughter card. The Matrox G200 graphics with 8 MB video memory provides only basic console output, so plan for headless or remote management via iDRAC8. No GPU compute acceleration is included.
