The Supermicro SYS-8048B-TRFT is a 4U rackmount server system populated with four Intel Xeon E7-4890 v2 processors, each running at 2.8 GHz with 15 cores. It arrives with 1 TB of DDR3 1600 MHz registered ECC memory installed across 32 modules. The chassis provides 24 front-accessible 3.5-inch hot-swap bays for SAS or SATA drives. Four 1620 W platinum redundant power supplies are fitted.

This system targets enterprise workloads that demand large memory capacity and high drive density, such as database hosting, virtualisation clusters or large-scale file storage. The included Matrox G200 graphics controller with 8 MB video memory provides only basic display output. Buyers who need GPU compute or graphics acceleration should look at a different platform.

Quad-socket LGA 2011 with 96 DIMM slots

The server uses the Intel C602J chipset and four LGA 2011 sockets, supporting the installed Xeon E7-4890 v2 CPUs. A total of 96 DDR3 DIMM slots allow expansion up to 6 TB of registered ECC memory. Eleven PCIe 3.0 slots (four x16, seven x8) provide room for additional controllers or network adapters. The LSI MegaRAID 9361-8i controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across eight SAS 12 Gb/s ports.
