Latching Relay FeatherWing for Feather Boards
This FeatherWing adds a latching relay to any Feather development board, allowing control of external AC or DC loads. It connects via stacking or female headers and uses only two microcontroller pins for operation. The module arrives fully assembled and tested, ready for immediate integration into prototypes.
Sustained Operation with Pulse Control
The latching mechanism requires a 10ms pulse on either the SET or UNSET pin to change state, then holds that position without continuous power. If system power is lost, the relay remains in its last setting, preserving the load state. This behaviour suits battery-powered or intermittent-duty applications where constant coil current is undesirable.
Switching Limits and Thermal Behaviour
The relay switches up to 2A resistive at 30VDC or ~40VAC, .6A at 110VDC, .5A at 120VAC, and .3A at 250VAC. Reactive or inductive loads require derating beyond these figures. The board itself draws negligible power while latched, and the relay housing dissipates minimal heat during normal switching cycles.
