Extending graphics cards from a 1x slot

This riser adapter lets you install a PCIe x16 graphics card into an open x1 slot on the motherboard. It is intended for builders who need to add a GPU when all full-length slots are occupied or when a compact board only provides a single x1 connection. The card works with x1, x4, x8 and x16 devices, though only x1 electrical speed is delivered. It does not support legacy PCI cards or PCIe x16 RAID controllers.

Sustained operation at x1 bandwidth

Because the adapter only wires a single lane, the connected graphics card runs at PCIe 1x throughput for the entire workload. This limits sustained transfer rates to the bandwidth of one lane, so compute-heavy tasks that saturate the bus will see reduced performance compared with a native x16 slot. The PCB uses a multi-layer design to maintain signal integrity over the extension, and no driver installation is required for the link to function.

Physical layout and daily handling

The male x1 connector plugs into the motherboard while the female x16 socket accepts the graphics card, allowing flexible placement inside the chassis. Hot-swap is not supported, so the system must be powered down before inserting or removing the card. The rigid PCB construction resists flex during installation, and the straightforward pinout means the adapter adds no extra configuration steps beyond the physical connection.
