Blade server for dense compute

The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server that fits into PowerEdge MX or M1000e chassis. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6154 processors running at 3.0 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo, each providing 18 cores for a total of 36 cores. The system includes 64 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across four 16 GB modules. It is suited for virtualization, private cloud and high-performance computing workloads.

Storage controller and network card

The integrated Dell PERC S140 controller supports SATA and NVMe drives with RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10. Two 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drive caddies are included for internal storage. A Broadcom 57810S-K dual-port 10 Gb network daughter card provides high-speed connectivity. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote management and automation. No operating system, front bezel or ready rails are included.

Half-height blade form factor

This server requires a compatible PowerEdge MX or M1000e blade enclosure for power, cooling and fabric interconnects. It will not operate as a standalone rack or tower unit. Maximum memory capacity is 1.5 TB across 16 DDR4 slots, allowing future expansion. Buyers who need a self-contained rack server or a tower chassis should consider a different form factor.
