The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server designed for data-centre and virtualisation tasks. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4GHz and 8GB of DDR4 memory. The chassis supports up to two processors and offers 24 DIMM slots for large memory configurations.

Hot-plug bays and redundant power

Eight 2.5-inch hot-plug drive bays accept SAS or SATA drives and connect through a Dell PERC H330 12Gbps RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. Two 750W redundant hot-swap power supplies keep the system running if one unit fails. A DVD-ROM drive and iDRAC8 remote management are included.

Dual supplies manage heat and draw

Redundant 750W power supplies share the load, reducing strain on each unit during normal operation. The 2U form factor directs airflow front-to-back through the chassis, while the Matrox G200 graphics subsystem draws minimal power. No operating system is installed, so power draw depends on the workload and any additional drives or cards added.
