The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built for midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, virtual desktop infrastructure or high-performance computing workloads. Two Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4 processors deliver 44 total cores at 2.2 GHz with 3.6 GHz turbo, supported by 256 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 24 slots.

H730 controller and quad-port networking

A PERC H730 1 GB storage controller provides RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through for the eight 2.5-inch SATA bays, currently populated with two 400 GB enterprise SSDs. Dual 750 W platinum hot-swap power supplies and iDRAC8 Enterprise remote management keep the platform running and serviceable, while an Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports.

Upgrade from single-socket

This system replaces single-processor servers or dual-socket boxes limited to lower core counts and memory ceilings, lifting the RAM limit to 1.5 TB and doubling thread capacity for heavily virtualised or database-heavy environments.
