The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug bays into a 2U rack chassis. Dual Xeon E5-2630v3 processors deliver 16 physical cores and 32 threads at 2.4 GHz, backed by 64 GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots. A Perc H730 controller with 1 GB cache manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the three included 300 GB 15 K SAS drives. Redundant 750 W power supplies and iDRAC8 remote management complete the package.

Suited to capacity-focused workloads

This configuration serves databases, backup targets and virtualisation hosts that prioritise raw 3.5-inch drive count over all-flash speed. The 12-bay front panel and H730 RAID engine handle large sequential workloads and mixed read-write patterns. Buyers needing more than 64 GB of installed memory or more than three drives out of the box should evaluate other platforms.

PCIe 3.0 expansion ceiling

The server provides up to six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID card slot, defining the limit for additional network, storage or accelerator cards. A 4-port 1 GbE daughter card is fitted; 10 GbE mezzanine options are available but not included. Any add-in card plan must fit within this slot budget.
