The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Gold 6126 processors, each providing twelve cores at 2.6GHz. It ships with 256GB of DDR4 memory across sixteen 16GB modules and eight 480GB SATA SSDs managed by an H730P RAID controller. The system targets virtualisation hosts, database nodes and compute clusters that need dense storage and redundant power in a standard rack footprint.

Thermals noise and power draw

Dual 1100W redundant power supplies deliver fail-over capacity while the chassis airflow design handles the thermal load of two twelve-core CPUs and a full complement of drives. Fan speeds scale with inlet temperature and component utilisation, so acoustic output rises under sustained heavy workloads but remains within typical data-centre limits. Power consumption will vary with actual CPU and storage activity rather than the supply rating alone.

Included accessories and management

The package includes a front bezel without an LCD panel, sliding rails for rack mounting and power cords for immediate deployment. Integrated iDRAC9 Enterprise provides out-of-band remote management with virtual console, power control and hardware inventory, reducing the need for physical datacentre visits. Eight PCIe Gen 3 slots and an Intel X550 network daughter card with two 10Gb and two 1Gb RJ45 ports are available for expansion without extra hardware.
