The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rackmount server equipped with two Intel Xeon Silver 4110 processors, each running at 2.1 GHz with eight cores. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across four 16 GB modules. The system is aimed at organisations that need dense processing power in a standard rack footprint.

Redundant power, hot-swap drive bays

The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays, currently populated with two 400 GB SATA SSDs managed by a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies and ready rails are included, while an iDRAC9 Enterprise module gives out-of-band control over the hardware.

Maximum two processors and 3 TB of DDR4 memory

The Intel C620 chipset supports a maximum of two CPUs, so no further socket upgrades are possible. Memory capacity tops out at 3 TB across 24 DIMM slots, and the installed DDR4 2400 MHz modules cannot be mixed with other DDR generations. Network connectivity relies on a quad-port daughter card providing two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links.
