The Dell PowerEdge R940 packs four Xeon Gold 5118 processors, each running at 2.3 GHz with 12 cores, into a 3U rack chassis. It ships with 256 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 48 slots. This configuration targets organisations running memory-intensive databases, virtualisation clusters or analytics workloads that benefit from high core counts in a compact footprint.

Hot-swap bays and redundant power simplify uptime

Eight 2.5-inch SAS drive bays support hot-swap replacement while the system stays online. Dual 1600 W platinum power supplies provide full redundancy. A quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections for flexible fabric integration. iDRAC 9 Enterprise gives administrators remote console, power control and firmware updates over a dedicated management port.

PERC H730P and rails accelerate deployment

The bundled PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache enables RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode for software-defined storage stacks. Eight 300 GB 10K SAS drives are pre-installed and ready for array creation.
