Dual-socket Xeon Gold blade for dense compute

The HPE BL460c Gen10 fits into a c-Class enclosure and delivers two Xeon Gold 6140 processors running at 2.3 GHz with 18 cores each. Forty-eight gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory are installed, expandable to 128 GB. Two 300 GB 10K SAS drives connect through the Smart Array P204i-b SR controller. Integrated iLO Advanced handles remote management.

Thermals noise and power in a shared enclosure

Cooling relies on the enclosure’s shared fans, so the blade itself has no independent airflow to measure. Power draw scales with both CPUs under load, but the chassis power supplies set the practical limit. Acoustic output is determined by the enclosure fan curves rather than the blade alone. The 20 GB FlexFabric adapter adds network throughput without extra cards.

Build quality connectors and daily implications

The half-height form factor occupies a single bay and uses the mid-plane for power, networking and storage links. Only two 2.5-inch drive bays are available internally, limiting local capacity. RAID configuration is managed through the onboard Smart Array controller. iLO Advanced provides console redirection and firmware updates without physical access. Buyers needing more than two drives or a different drive interface must use external storage.
