The StarTech SM2NGFFMBU33 converts a M.2 SATA solid-state drive into a bus-powered USB 3.0 external drive. It accepts common M.2 lengths of 30, 42, 60 and 80 mm and supports SATA I, II and III interfaces. The aluminium housing acts as a heatsink and fits in a pocket. UASP support on compatible hosts can raise transfer efficiency by up to 70 percent over standard USB 3.0.
For SATA M.2 drives only
Suits users who want to reuse an existing M.2 SATA SSD as portable storage across Windows, macOS and Linux without drivers. Not for buyers who need NVMe speeds or an enclosure that accepts PCIe-based M.2 drives. Also unsuitable if the host only offers USB 2.0 and the workflow demands the full 5 Gbps link rate.
