The ASM3142 controller handles USB 3.2 traffic and the card draws slot power, with an optional SATA connector for extra current. Buyers wanting Thunderbolt or DisplayPort Alt Mode should look elsewhere.

Fits x4 to x16 slots; driver needed on Windows 7

The half-height bracket fits any PCI Express x4, x8 or x16 slot on PCIe 2.0 or 3.0 motherboards. No external power brick is required; the optional SATA power plug supplements port current when the slot alone cannot deliver 5 V 3 A per port. Windows 8, 10, 11, macOS 10.8.2+ and most Linux kernels load drivers automatically. Windows 7 and XP require the Renesas/VLI driver from the included CD before the ports appear.
