This 32 GB kit contains two 16 GB DDR3 1600 MHz ECC registered DIMMs built for Dell PowerEdge R320, R420, R420xr, R520, R620, R720, R720xd, R820 and R920 rack servers. The modules run at 1.5 V with CL11 latency and a 2Rx4 organisation, matching the 240-pin DDR3 slots used across the 12th Gen platform. IT teams handling virtualisation, database or compute workloads on these systems can add capacity without changing voltage or memory generation.
If the server currently runs 4 GB, 8 GB or 16 GB DDR3 1600 MHz registered modules, this kit doubles or quadruples the memory pool while keeping the same speed, voltage and ECC behaviour. The jump is worth it when workloads exceed the existing capacity and cause swapping or VM density limits, provided the CPU and chipset support the total amount installed. Systems already at the maximum supported capacity or running non-ECC unbuffered memory cannot use these modules.
Verify the server model appears in the compatible list and that the BIOS is current enough to recognise 16 GB dual-rank registered DIMMs. Confirm the memory-channel population rules for the specific CPU — some Xeon E5-1400, E5-2400, E5-2600, E5-4600, E7-2800, E7-4800 and E7-8800 series processors have per-channel rank limits. Ensure the operating system and hypervisor can address the additional memory. This kit will not fit desktop, laptop or non-ECC platforms.
