The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drives in a 2U chassis. Dual Xeon E5-2609 v3 processors supply twelve cores at 1.9 GHz. 32 GB of DDR4 memory occupies two of twenty-four DIMM slots. A PERC H330 controller manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 across SAS or SATA disks.

Upgrade from limited bay count or single-CPU systems

Moving from a 1U or tower chassis with fewer drive bays adds twelve bays and a second processor socket. The jump is worth it when workloads need more than eight drives or require redundant power supplies. Existing DDR4 RDIMMs can be reused up to the 1536 GB platform maximum.

12 TB raw capacity with room to grow

Three 4 TB 7.2K SAS drives deliver 12 TB raw; the chassis accepts nine more drives for up to 52 TB total. Six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID slot provide I/O headroom for additional controllers or networking. Memory headroom reaches 1536 GB across twenty-four slots for future expansion.
