The Lenovo Xeon E5-2660 v4 is a 14-core server processor built for Socket R3 (LGA2011-3) platforms. It operates at a base frequency of 2.0 GHz with a thermal design power of 105W. The chip includes 35MB of L3 cache and 3.50MB each of L1 and L2 cache. It is intended for administrators refreshing compatible dual-socket servers or workstations that require additional multi-threaded capacity.
Under continuous load the 14 cores maintain the 2.0 GHz base frequency within the 105W envelope. The 35MB shared L3 cache reduces core-to-core latency during parallel workloads such as virtualisation, database serving or batch rendering. A QPI speed of 9.60 GT/s supports coherent memory access across two sockets, helping throughput scale when both processor slots are populated.
This processor replaces an existing LGA2011-3 Xeon when the board and BIOS support the v4 stepping. The jump is worthwhile when the current CPU has fewer than 14 cores or less L3 cache, and the workload benefits from higher thread counts. It is not suited for systems that require a different socket, a lower TDP limit, or single-thread frequencies above 2.0 GHz.
