This 768GB kit contains eight 96GB DDR5-6400 registered ECC modules built to the exact rank, voltage and timing the Supermicro X14SDW-72C-SP9F memory controller expects. It targets administrators who need maximum supported capacity in every slot for virtualisation, databases or high-performance computing workloads. The registered design offloads the memory controller so all eight DIMMs operate at the rated 6400 MT/s speed.
The DDR5-6400 (PC5-51200) standard delivers 6400 MT/s at 1.1V with CL52 latency, but the motherboard’s qualified-vendor list and population tables dictate which slots must be filled first and whether all eight channels can run at that speed simultaneously. ECC corrects single-bit errors on the fly, yet the registered buffer adds one cycle of latency that some latency-sensitive applications may notice. The 2Rx4 organisation increases density but can restrict maximum ranks per channel on certain CPU steppings.
