The Samsung PM9A3 MZ-QL27T60 is a 7.68TB enterprise solid-state drive built for 2.5-inch U.2 bays. It connects through a PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe interface and uses 3D NAND with power-loss protection for data at-rest and in-flight. The drive is designed for high-utilisation server environments that require consistent quality of service.
Upgrade from PCIe 3.0 or SATA arrays
This model replaces PCIe 3.0 NVMe drives that top out near 3500 MB/s sequential read and lower random write IOPS. The jump is worth it when workloads demand up to 6500 MB/s sequential read, 3500 MB/s sequential write and 200K random write IOPS. It also supersedes SATA SSDs that cannot deliver the 900K random read IOPS or dual-port redundancy this drive provides.
Sustained mixed workload behaviour
Firmware prioritises quality of service for sustained random workloads, keeping virtual machines and containers responsive. The controller can suspend flash erase and program operations to prioritise incoming reads, which enhances consistent latency on mixed read/write patterns. Hardware accelerators maintain more than three times the random write throughput of the previous generation under continuous duty cycles.
