Server ECC Registered Kit

This 12GB kit contains three 4GB DDR3 1333 registered ECC modules built for Asus Z8NA-D6 and Z8NA-D6C server boards. The 240-pin DIMMs run at 1.5V with CL9 9-9-9 timing and use 2Rx4 major-brand chips without heat spreaders. It targets administrators upgrading dual-socket Xeon 5500-series platforms that require registered memory.

Capacity And Speed Limits

The board accepts up to 96GB with registered DIMMs across six total sockets, three per CPU. DDR3 1333 operates only with one DIMM per channel on Xeon X5550 or higher processors; adding a second DIMM per channel drops the bus to 1066MHz, and a third forces 800MHz. Quad-rank modules cannot run at 1333MHz on the 5500 series, and the system will not support more than two quad-rank DIMMs per channel.

Build Integration

Mixing registered and unbuffered ECC is not supported, so all slots must use registered modules like this kit. The three-stick package suits a single-CPU configuration or one DIMM per channel on a dual-CPU board to retain 1333MHz speed. Systems with Xeon E5520 or E5506 processors will clock the memory down to 1066MHz or 800MHz respectively regardless of module rating.
