5U tower server for small offices

The Dell PowerEdge T430 is a 5U rack-mountable tower server built for small-office and remote-office workloads such as file, print, mail and web serving. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2667 v4 processors running at 3.2 GHz with 3.6 GHz turbo, 128 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 16 GB modules, and a Dell PERC H730 1 GB controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through modes.

SATA 6 Gb/s and 12 Gb/s controller limits

Eight 3.5-inch 4 TB enterprise SATA drives at 7.2 K RPM connect through the H730 controller, which handles both 6 Gb/s SATA and 12 Gb/s SAS signalling. The platform maxes out at 384 GB of DDR4 across twelve slots, so memory expansion beyond the installed 128 GB requires additional registered ECC modules. Network connectivity is limited to the integrated Broadcom 5720 dual-port 1 GbE LOM.

Slide rails required and bezel included

The 5U chassis uses redundant hot-swap 750 W platinum power supplies and includes the front bezel, but plastic feet and slide rails are not supplied, so rack installation needs a compatible rail kit. iDRAC 8 Express provides basic remote management out of the box; licensing upgrades are separate. Buyers needing higher drive counts, faster networking or GPU acceleration should look at larger platforms.
