Upgrade from single-socket or smaller memory

Moving from a single-processor server doubles the core count to 32 and raises the memory ceiling to 3 TB. The jump is worth it when workloads such as virtualisation, database or high-performance computing need more parallel threads and larger datasets than a single socket can address. The board already holds the maximum of two processors, so further CPU expansion requires a new chassis.

12 Gb/s SAS controller and 10K spindle limits

The PERC H730P operates at 12 Gb/s over SAS and SATA, capping throughput to the speed of the installed 10 000 RPM drives.
