PowerEdge R650 1U dual-Xeon server

The Dell PowerEdge R650 is a 1U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 6338 processors, each offering 32 cores at 2.0 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 512 GB of DDR4 3200 MHz registered ECC memory across 16 DIMM slots. The system includes a PERC H755 RAID controller with 8 GB NV cache and battery backup. Ten 2.5-inch drive trays support SAS and SATA devices.

Storage and I/O limits

The PERC H755 controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the ten front-accessible bays. Drive interfaces are limited to SATA and SAS; the supplied trays do not accommodate NVMe drives directly. Network connectivity comes from a Broadcom 5720 quad-port 1 GbE OCP 3.0 adapter. Remote management is provided by iDRAC 9 Enterprise. The chassis accepts two redundant 1400 W platinum power supplies.

512 GB DDR4 memory configuration

The installed 512 GB of DDR4 3200 MHz ECC memory fills 16 of the 32 available DIMM slots, leaving room for expansion up to the platform maximum of 2 TB. Buyers who need more capacity at purchase must plan additional modules separately. The memory type is strictly DDR4; other generations are physically and electrically incompatible. This server targets workloads that fit within the current memory footprint or can scale within the DDR4 platform.
