The Dell PowerEdge R650 is a 1U rack server designed for dense compute workloads such as virtualization, database management and high-performance computing clusters. It ships with two Intel Xeon Silver 4316 processors, each delivering 20 cores at 2.3 GHz with a 3.4 GHz turbo frequency, providing 40 total cores for parallel processing tasks. The system targets IT teams that need maximum throughput in a single rack unit.

Build, power and connectivity

A redundant pair of 1400 watt platinum power supplies supports hot-swap replacement without downtime. Ten 2.5 inch drive bays are populated with 1.8 TB 10K SAS drives connected to a PERC H755 RAID controller with 8 GB NV cache and battery backup, enabling RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Networking is handled by a Broadcom 57412 dual-port 10 GbE SFP+ OCP 3.0 card, while iDRAC9 Enterprise provides dedicated remote management. Ready Rails and a front bezel are included for immediate rack mounting.

Memory ceiling and storage interface limits

The platform supports up to 2 TB of DDR4 memory across 32 DIMM slots running at speeds up to 3200 MT/s, though this unit ships with 128 GB of 2666 MHz registered ECC modules. Drive bays accept SAS, SATA and NVMe devices, but the installed H755 controller manages SAS and SATA only; NVMe drives would require a different controller or backplane. PCIe Gen4 lanes are available for add-in cards, yet the 1U chassis restricts full-height card installation and limits the number of available slots.
