The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server designed for organisations that need dense storage capacity in a standard rack footprint. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz and 16 GB of DDR4 memory installed across 24 DIMM slots. The system supports up to two processors for expanded compute performance.

Hot-plug drive bays and redundant power

Twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug bays accept SAS or SATA drives, and three 4 TB 7.2K SAS drives are included with trays. The Dell PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across a 12 Gbps SAS interface. Dual 750 W redundant hot-swap power supplies keep the server running during a single supply failure.

Check processor, memory and networking needs

The motherboard uses the Intel C610 chipset and provides up to six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID card slot. Only one processor is installed; a second compatible Xeon is required to activate the remaining twelve memory slots and additional PCIe lanes. Networking defaults to a four-port 1 GbE daughter card, with optional 10 GbE NDC modules available separately. No operating system is included.
