The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Gold 6148 processor running at 2.4 GHz with 20 cores and 27.5 MB cache. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 memory in four 16 GB modules at 2666 MT/s. Four 120 GB SATA RI SSDs provide boot and application storage managed by an H730P RAID controller. The chassis supports up to eight 2.5-inch drive bays for future expansion.

Dual 1100 W redundant power

Two 1100 W redundant power supplies deliver fault-tolerant power for continuous operation. Integrated iDRAC9 Enterprise enables comprehensive out-of-band monitoring and control over a dedicated network interface. The system includes Intel X550 networking with two 10 Gb RJ45 ports and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports for flexible connectivity. No optical drive is fitted, reducing internal heat sources.

Eight PCIe Gen 3 slots

Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots accommodate additional network cards, accelerators or storage controllers. The 2U form factor fits standard racks while leaving room for up to eight 2.5-inch drives beyond the four SSDs already installed. Included rails and bezel simplify rack mounting. Buyers who need a second processor or larger memory capacity from day one should consider a differently configured unit.
