Dual Xeon Gold 6130 2U Server

This new Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors. Each CPU runs at 2.1 GHz with 16 cores and can reach 3.7 GHz turbo. The system ships with 64 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across four modules. It targets organisations that need dense compute and internal storage in a standard rack footprint.

Build integration and expandability

The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch drive bays populated with 1.2 TB 10K SAS drives and a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Network connectivity comes from an Intel X520/I350 daughter card delivering two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports. Twenty-four DDR4 slots allow memory expansion up to 3 TB. Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies and included ready rails simplify rack installation.

Included management and accessories

iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides full remote management with virtual console and lifecycle automation. The front bezel and sliding rails are supplied so the server can be secured and serviced without extra parts. The PERC H730P battery backs cached writes during power loss. No solid-state drives or additional accelerator cards are included, so buyers needing flash storage or GPU compute must source those separately.
