Four-Socket Xeon Gold Platform

The Dell PowerEdge R940 is a 3U rack server populated with four Xeon Gold 5118 processors. Each chip runs at 2.3 GHz with 12 cores and a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. The system ships with 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory installed across eight 16 GB modules. It targets organisations that run memory-intensive workloads such as virtualisation, in-memory databases or high-performance computing.

Build Integration Requirements

The chassis occupies 3U of rack space and includes ready rails for installation. Four LGA 3647 sockets are fully populated, leaving no room for additional CPUs. Forty-eight DDR4 slots remain, with forty free for expansion up to 6 TB total capacity. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays are filled with 1.2 TB 10K SAS disks behind a PERC H730P controller. Two 1600 W redundant power supplies deliver hot-swap redundancy. A quad-port network daughter card provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections.

Included Management And Connectivity

iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables full remote management including virtual console and power control without an operating system. The PERC H730P battery-backed cache supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. The network daughter card adds both copper and fibre uplink options in a single slot. Rails and a front bezel are supplied so the server can be mounted and secured immediately.
