The HP Elite x2 1012 G2 is a 12.3" 2-in-1 detachable tablet designed for mobile professionals who need a full Windows 10 Pro environment. It runs on a 7th Gen Intel Core i7-7600U dual-core processor at 2.8 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.9 GHz, 16 GB LPDDR3 RAM, and a 256 GB NVMe SSD. The WQXGA+ IPS touchscreen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

Integrated graphics limit 3D and video workloads

Visuals are handled by Intel HD Graphics 620, which is suitable for office applications, web browsing, and video playback but not for gaming, CAD, or GPU-accelerated rendering. The 2736 x 1824 display at 268 ppi and 450 cd/m² brightness with 85° viewing angles is sharp and bright, yet the integrated GPU cannot drive demanding external monitors at high refresh rates. Thunderbolt over USB Type-C provides high-speed data, but the GPU remains the bottleneck for heavy visual tasks.

Detachable design requires careful handling

The tablet snaps onto the included backlit travel keyboard and supports the HP Active Pen for inking. Installation is simply attaching the keyboard magnetically and pairing the pen via Bluetooth. What usually goes wrong: the keyboard pogo pins can collect debris and lose connection, the pen tip wears down and needs replacement, and the tablet’s thin profile makes it vulnerable to screen flex if pressure is applied unevenly when detached.
