Balanced 1U rack server

The HP ProLiant DL160 G9 fits a standard 1U rack slot and ships with two Xeon E5-2630v3 processors at 2.4GHz. It targets workloads that need up to 36 total cores across two sockets. The C610 chipset and 16 DDR4 DIMM slots provide the platform foundation.

32GB DDR4 with 1TB ceiling

Installed memory is 32GB across the 16 slots, leaving headroom to reach the 1TB maximum with larger registered ECC modules. Two 500GB 7.2K SATA drives occupy two of the eight 2.5-inch bays. The B140i controller manages RAID 0, 1 or 5 on SATA devices only.

B140i software RAID limits

The onboard B140i handles SATA RAID without a dedicated hardware controller, which caps array performance at the SATA interface speed. Twelve gigabytes per second SAS drives are not supported by this controller. Expansion beyond eight bays requires the optional media bay or additional drive cage.

How can I confirm the B140i controller is managing the two 500 GB SATA drives in the RAID level I selected?

During POST press the indicated key to enter the B140i Option ROM utility, or boot the Smart Storage Administrator from the Intelligent Provisioning menu; both show the logical drive, its RAID level (0, 1 or 5) and the physical drive status.
