This OWC kit supplies 512GB of DDR4 memory across eight 64GB registered DIMMs. It is built for the Dell PowerEdge C4140 server platform running SkyLake CPUs. The modules are ECC registered and will not work in standard desktop computers or alongside unbuffered or load-reduced memory.
Each module operates at 1.2V without a heat spreader, relying on the server’s directed airflow for cooling. Registered buffering reduces electrical load on the memory controller, helping keep power draw predictable under sustained workloads. The JEDEC-standard design ensures stable operation within the system’s thermal envelope.
The kit uses a 4Rx4 rank organisation and CL21 latency at DDR4 2933 (PC4-23400). This specific rank configuration must match the C4140’s memory-subsystem requirements; systems needing a different rank structure or unbuffered DIMMs cannot use this upgrade.
