The Dell PowerEdge R650 is a 1U rack server built for dense enterprise workloads. It ships with two Intel Xeon Silver 4314 processors, each with 16 cores at 2.4 GHz. The system includes 1 TB of DDR4 registered ECC memory and a PERC H755 RAID controller with 8 GB NV cache. Ten 1.8 TB SAS hard drives and dual 1400 W power supplies are installed.

Suits virtualisation and database clusters

This configuration suits teams running virtualised infrastructure or memory-heavy databases that need ten hot-swap drive bays and dual-processor throughput. Buyers who need NVMe storage, GPU accelerators or more than two processors should look at a different platform. The fixed 1U height also limits PCIe expansion compared with larger chassis.

PERC H755 RAID controller with 8 GB cache

The PERC H755 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 and includes a battery-backed 8 GB NV cache. This controller determines the RAID levels and write-performance ceiling for the ten SAS drives. If your workload requires a different RAID feature set or an HBA mode, this server will not meet that need.
