Dual Xeon E5-2660 v3 server for dense storage

The PowerEdge R730xd fits two ten-core Xeon E5-2660 v3 processors running at 2.6 GHz with a 3.3 GHz turbo into a 2U rack chassis. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4-2133 registered ECC memory occupy four of twenty-four slots. Twenty-four 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drive bays connect to a PERC H730 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. A quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links.

Redundant platinum power supplies

Two hot-swap 750 W platinum-efficiency units share the load, keeping each supply in its high-efficiency band during normal operation. The iDRAC 8 Enterprise module provides out-of-band monitoring, virtual console and power control over a dedicated management port. Front-to-rear airflow passes through the 24-bay mid-plane and CPU heatsinks, so fan speeds stay moderate when the system runs typical database or virtualisation workloads.

Sustained load keeps thermals steady with headroom

Under continuous multi-threaded pressure both CPUs hold their 2.6 GHz base clock while the H730 battery-backed cache absorbs write bursts. Memory bandwidth scales across the four populated channels, leaving twenty empty DIMM slots for future expansion up to 1.5 TB. The dual 10 Gb SFP+ ports maintain line-rate throughput for storage replication or vMotion traffic without saturating the PCIe lanes shared with the storage controller.
