The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server designed for environments that prioritise internal drive capacity. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609v3 six-core processor at 1.9GHz and 64GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots. Three 1TB 7.2K SATA drives and a PERC H730 RAID controller with 1GB cache provide a ready-to-deploy foundation for backup, archive or software-defined storage clusters.

Dual 750W redundant supplies share load

Two hot-swap 750W power supplies operate in redundant mode, so a single unit failure does not interrupt service. The 12-bay 3.5-inch hot-plug chassis directs airflow front-to-rear across the drives and CPU, keeping thermals steady under typical mixed read-write workloads. Fan speeds scale with inlet temperature, limiting acoustic output to levels suitable for standard server rooms rather than office spaces.

Twelve drive bays and six PCIe 3.0 slots

The chassis accepts up to twelve 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives, leaving nine bays free for future expansion beyond the three installed units. A dedicated RAID slot holds the H730, while six full-height PCIe 3.0 slots remain available for additional networking, GPU or storage controllers. Four onboard 1GbE ports handle management and data traffic, with optional 10GbE daughter cards supported. iDRAC8 Express provides remote console and lifecycle management out of the box.
