Fit and Limits

Buyers needing dense compute and large memory footprints in a 4U form factor will find this configuration suitable. The four-processor layout and 96 total DIMM slots provide headroom for growth up to 12 TB of DDR4. Teams requiring GPU acceleration, front-accessible NVMe drives beyond the 2.5-inch SATA bays, or a smaller rack footprint should evaluate alternative platforms. The Matrox G200 graphics with 8 MB video memory supports only basic console output.

Deciding Specification

The installed storage consists of 24 SATA SSDs at 960 GB each, managed by a PERC H730P 2 GB controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. This all-flash array delivers high random-read performance for transactional databases and virtualised storage tiers. If the workload demands NVMe latency or a different drive interface, the 2.5-inch SATA backplane and controller combination will not meet that requirement.
