HPE DL380 Gen9 12-bay server

The HPE DL380 Gen9 chassis holds up to twelve 3.5-inch drives and ships with two Xeon E5-2690 v4 processors running at 2.6GHz. Each CPU provides fourteen cores and 35MB cache, giving strong multi-threaded throughput for virtualisation, database or compute clusters. The system includes 256GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory and a P440ar SAS controller with expander for RAID management.

Suited for dense storage workloads

This configuration targets buyers who need large-capacity SAS or SATA arrays behind a single 2U node, with dual 10GbE and dual 1GbE ports already installed. It is not for buyers who require more than two sockets, more than 3TB of RAM, or GPU-accelerated workloads that need dedicated PCIe accelerators. The integrated graphics and lack of installed drives also mean it cannot serve as a ready-to-run workstation or boot appliance without further parts.

Deciding spec: twelve 3.5-inch drive bays

The twelve-bay LFF chassis is the single attribute that determines fit: if your dataset demands more than twelve spindles you must add external enclosures or choose a different platform.
