The HPE DL380 Gen9 4LFF rack server ships with two Xeon E5-2697 v3 processors running at 2.6GHz and 256GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. The chassis provides four 3.5-inch drive bays and an HPE Smart Array P440 SAS controller for storage expansion.

Upgrade from single-socket or Gen8 systems

Moving from a single-processor server or an earlier Gen8 chassis adds a second 14-core CPU, doubling thread count and raising maximum memory capacity to 3TB. The jump is worth it when workloads exceed the memory or core limits of a single socket and when the application scales across NUMA nodes. Buyers who only need modest thread counts or smaller memory footprints will not use the extra capacity.

Sustained load with dual 500W supplies

Two 500W Flex Slot power supplies share the load, keeping each unit in its high-efficiency range during continuous multi-threaded jobs. The P440 controller offloads RAID parity calculations, reducing CPU overhead during long rebuilds or heavy sequential writes. Integrated iLO Advanced remote management allows firmware updates and health monitoring without taking the server offline.
