2U 8-bay server chassis with 12 Gb/s SAS backplane

This 2U rackmount chassis fits a standard 19-inch cabinet and holds eight hot-swap 3.5-inch drive bays. It supports SATA II or III and SAS II or III drives at up to 6 Gb/s per bay. The 12 Gb/s Mini SAS backplane includes a temperature control chipset. Construction uses 1.0 mm SGCC zinc-coated steel for durability.

Upgrade from fixed-bay

The hot-swap design lets you replace drives without powering down the system, and the dual backplane options cover both 6 Gb/s and 12 Gb/s Mini SAS connectivity. The jump is worth it when you need eight bays in 2U height with tool-less drive access and support for redundant power supplies. An optional slim CD-ROM bay can also host a 2.5-inch SSD.

Limits of the 12 Gb/s Mini SAS interface

The backplane delivers 12 Gb/s aggregate bandwidth, but each drive bay operates at the SATA or SAS device speed of 6 Gb/s. Seven full-height PCI/PCIe expansion slots are available for host bus adapters or RAID controllers. Front-panel USB 2.0 ports are standard with optional USB 3.0, and system LEDs cover power, drive activity, network, UID and fan or power failure status.
