The card uses a PCIe 2.0 x4 connection; it will operate in a PCIe 1.0 slot at the slower 1.0 speed, but the physical x4 connector must be present.
How can I verify the Intel 82574 chipset is running at 1000Mbs after installing the driver?
Open the network adapter properties in Device Manager; the Speed & Duplex setting should show 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex when linked to a Gigabit switch.
