Targeted DDR3 upgrade for HP Z800

This kit supplies eight gigabytes of DDR3 1333 ECC registered memory in a matched pair of four gigabyte modules. It is built for HP Compaq Workstation Z800 owners who need to expand capacity with validated parts. The registered design and error correction suit server grade workloads on this platform. Buyers using other workstations or consumer desktops cannot use these modules.

Speed limits set by processor and population

The Z800 chipset ties maximum memory speed to the installed Xeon processor and to how many slots are filled. With Xeon X5550 or higher CPUs the kit runs at 1333 MHz when one DIMM occupies each channel. Adding a second DIMM per channel forces the bus down to 1066 MHz. Quad rank modules in the second triple channel bank drop further to 800 MHz. Systems with Xeon E5520 or lower processors cannot exceed 1066 or 800 MHz respectively.

Registered ECC build for dense configurations

Each stick uses a 240 pin registered interface with a 2Rx4 organisation and operates at 1.5 volts. The registered buffer allows the Z800 to populate up to twelve slots and reach 192 gigabytes of total RDIMM capacity. No heat spreaders are fitted so modules sit low in tightly spaced banks. Buyers who need unbuffered ECC or non ECC memory for other platforms should select a different kit.
